THE GIFT OF GOD

12/24/2004

Christmas is usually a time of shopping and good cheer

Of decorating and cookie baking…but if it isn’t quite that way this year

Then let it be so much more than that…a season filled with pure delight

For the simplicity and the great fulfillment…found in Jesus Christ

God has given us the gift of His own Son…wrapped in an earthly Mom

God delivered Jesus on that first Christmas morn…but still He wasn’t done

He grew Him up…He grew Him strong…then came the greatest gift of all

He gave His Son’s life so we could live…that’s priceless…He took our fall

With every gift that is unwrapped…with every twinkle light we see

With every delicious meal served…with every beautiful Christmas tree

There is nothing that will satisfy…there is nothing that will even come close

To a heart that’s filled with gratitude to the Father, the Son and Holy Ghost

So if anything is missing, if there’s great struggle…on this Christmas Day

If the gift you wished for didn’t come…if your heart is broken in any way

Don’t let it leave you empty…not after all you have received…

When Jesus became your Savior…Remember, when you chose to believe

You were given all you’d ever need…more than you could dare to hope or ask

So, what’s here…what’s now…will pass on by…it doesn’t have to cast

A shadow on the things to come…there’s so much yet to see

Sit back…relax…rest in the gift of God…that will last an eternity
