A Strong Heart

I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13

Prayer changes things, and it starts with our very own hearts!

Loving others is not all that easy, in fact, it’s very hard. It takes a strong heart! It would be easier to love others if they would do exactly what we want them to do, and do it exactly when and how we want them to do it, but that is never going to happen—not with our friends, not with our spouse, not with our children, not with anyone. Everyone is going to live their own life, and we are going to live ours, and most times loving each other through it all is going to be hard work. And yet, that is exactly what God calls us to do! Love!

“Above all, love each other deeply…”
1 Peter 4:8

Above all? Above all the frustration, and disappointment, and hurt, and confusion, and misunderstanding…Love? It seems really impossible, doesn’t it? In talking to God, recognizing our complete weakness and our dependence upon God, the power of God will fill us! “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NLT)

Our heart not only beats, it takes a beating, and when it’s bruised and bloodied we’re not in very good condition to love another human being who also has a bruised and bloodied heart. Every day bruised and bloodied hearts spend time with other bruised and bloodied hearts, and in the midst of all that hurt and pain, God asks us to love one another! Impossible…without God that is. Maybe we have trouble loving others because we are focused on the things of this world, and not on the love God has for this world, and for us? Maybe we all need to take a moment away from the noise and confusion and pray, and allow God to make our hearts strong by focusing on His love.

We are all in the same battle on this earth, the battle between good and evil. We all need Jesus, and we all need each other. If we are fighting against one another, then the devil is having his way with us, and we are victims of Satan’s abuse. That is why God is asking us to love one another, because the devil is certainly not going to love us. The name of Jesus is kryptonite to the devil! The devil can’t stand hearing the name of our Lord! The devil can’t stand hearing us read scripture out loud! The devil can’t stand our worship songs, or our prayers. It makes the devil weak! Jesus’ name gives us Mighty Superpowers! Jesus makes our hearts strong! This world will crowd in on God’s love in our hearts day by precious day, pushing the love out little by little if we are not asking God every day to guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. Prayer does change things.
